Study For Self-Portrait (Vanya & Lara), 2011

Two simultaneous video projections show two sisters performing choreography of small movement. The choreography is based on a series of unintentional movements that were recorded in previous film sessions. The girls are asked to re-enact each other’s movements; to practice and watch each other.
Eventually, in turns, they are seated in front of a mirror as a life-sized image of their sister is projected over the sitter. They look at themselves and are now able to see the other at the same time. The personal and colourful installation ‘Vanya en Lara’ shows how they seek each other’s eyes, struggle to keep up with the projection and how they finally achieve synchronization.
