CU When U Get There I, 2016

This work was part of the solo presenation ‘Café Paradies’ at SSBA Salon Amsterdam. It was shown in combination with the second part of this work. CU When U Get There II. See this project for more information.

CU When U Get There retraces the route that the Dutch landscape painter B.C Koekkoek travelled in the company of 3 friends in the summer of 1839. In the book ‘Memories and Announcements of a Landscape painter’ he gives a detailed description of the undertaken routes and walks; nature scenes are described in lyrical romantic fashion and Koekkoek voices his opinions about painting and the purpose of art. In the first part of this two part work, four male characters position themselves within view on screen, flexing and leaning in, projecting their monologue of a journey. As they posture, their words build an image of their movements through their surroundings, however their state of travel is perpetual, and their contemporary words simply create a textual loop.
