CU When U Get There II, 2016

This work was part of the solo presenation ‘Café Paradies’ at SSBA Salon Amsterdam. It was shown in combination with the first part of this work. See previous project for more information.

CU When U Get There retraces the route that the Dutch landscape painter B.C Koekkoek travelled in the company of 3 friends in the summer of 1839. In the book ‘Memories and Announcements of a Landscape painter’ he gives a detailed description of the undertaken routes and walks; nature scenes are described in lyrical romantic fashion and Koekkoek voices his opinions about painting and the purpose of art. During the 1970’s, the Ahr Valley was a popular spot for Europeans to travel to for their vacations, with numerous purpose built hotels. After the shift in behaviours that now see people in Europe fly to far-off destinations for their holidays, these hotels and landscapes are somehow redundant of their original function as desirable destinations (however recently they have found new essential purpose).
